Installation For The Putting Greens
Installation
For The Putting Greens
Step 1- Deciding the placement
of the putting green
- Take a string or extension
cord and lay it out in
the desired area and shape.
Our most common used synthetic
turf is 13 ft wide
and the Premier is 15
ft wide. So you will need
to keep these widths in
mind (12, 24, 36 ft wide)
unless you plan on cutting
and seaming rolls (if
this is your plans please
refer to steps9-12 first).
- It Would be recommended
to practice your golf
game to make sure that
the area you have choosen
is the perfect fit.
- Use spray paint to outline
the perimeter. This will
be used as a reference
point where your decomposed
granite material will
be placed.
Step
2- Removing the Sod
- Whether you have an
in-ground or above ground
install you will need
to use a sod cutter or
shovel to remove the grass
that is in the marked
area.
- Remove any loose debris
after sod has been removed.
Step
3- Prepare Ground
- Compact the ground using
your plate compactor.
This is done to insure
that you have a flat and
solid base for the decomposed
granite
- Lay out the weed barrier
on top of the ground where
you will be installing
the putting green. The
weed barrier acts like
a cloth so it does not
allow the decomposed granite
base material to sink
into the ground.
Step
4- Adding the Border
- Make sure you distribute
the decomposed granite
using a rake spreader
it will be easier to insure
that the sub based material
stays flat.
- Use a shovel to move
large amounts of the decomposed
granite material and the
flat side of the rack
to smooth it out. Helpful
hint: A good rule of thumb
is a 1 inch drop for every
10-12 ft in length.
Step
5- Compacting The Decomposed
Granite
- Make sure that the decomposed
granite is properly compacted
if not it will cause irregularities
on the surface of your
putting green and this
will cause affects on
the roll of you ball.
- With a hose, spray the
decomposed granite lightly.
Do not saturate it.
- Now compact the decomposed
granite to ensure you
have a solid compaction
and make sure you do this
several times. If there
are any bumps, ridges
or dips smooth them out
with your rack or shovel
you can also use a 2x4
to level the decomposed
granite. Helpful Hint:
The goal is to keep the
surface consistently smooth
and solid. Also understand
that a 1 in rise over
1 to 2 ft will add a lot
of contour once the putting
green is added.
- Keep in mind that artificial
lawns are suppose
to fit like a glove to
the surface. If you add
too much slope the ball
will roll fast and may
roll off your green. A
good basic guideline is
for every 10 to12 ft in
length the decomposed
granite will drop the
slope 1 in.
Step
6- Install The Cups
- Arrange the cups on
the decomposed granite.
- Mark the place where
the cups will be permanently
placed. This can be done
by applying pressure to
each cup and rotating
it this will cause a small
indentation to the decomposed
granite and this will
be used a marker or reference
point.
- Using a small hand shovel
dig a small hole that
is at least 2 inches larger
around than the cup itself.
Because your cups are
6 in tall you will need
to make your hole 6 in
above the top of the decomposed
granite material.
- Add fast drying concrete
mix powder around the
entire outside perimeter.
- Use the handle of your
hand shovel to pack down
the mix. Leave 1 in of
the cup exposed.
