How To Use Artificial Grass Lawns With Dogs
Today, artificial
grass is becoming very popular
for lawns. Earlier, it used to be used mainly
in sports fields, golf courses etc. It does
not need maintenance on a regular basis. People
having pets are always worried as to how pets
will react to artificial grass, since they
are used only to the natural variety. Dogs
love grass and do not have any problem with
it and in fact, like it.
Artificial lawns
can be made where natural grass cannot be
grown. In separate houses, the dog's kennel
can have artificial grass. It can surround
a kennel. The backyard can also be covered
with it. It can be grown even in high rise
buildings, for dogs. It is not essential to
have a lot of space. Dogs love to run and
play around in the grass all year round. This
is possible with artificial grass, since it
is not weather dependant. It is available
throughout the year. It does not get dried
in the sun or soggy after rains. There is
no need to use fertilizers and weed killers
as is necessary with natural grass. It feels
soft and dogs like the feel of it. It is a
safe and clean place for the dogs to play.
When dogs play in natural grass their paws would get dirty and hence it would be necessary to clean it. Since artificial grass is generally clean, their paws will always be tidy. Dogs love digging up patches of grass. This is not possible with artificial grass. The infill in the grass is generally sand or rubber. When we have dogs it is better to have sand fill so that it is non toxic.
The
artificial grass lawns can
be hygienically maintained even when one has
dogs as pets. The urine in the grass washes
through as it does in natural grass. The faeces
can be removed by scooping it out with a spatula.
To keep the lawn clean, it can be washed with
water and the water can drain off, like rain
water. To keep the area clean and free from
odor, disinfectants can be sprayed. Artificial
grass does not attract insects. This is very
convenient, since the dogs will not get ticks
and fleas.
If the surface of the grass gets compacted and develops 'low spots' because of the constant running by the dogs, then sand should be filled in and the level should be raised. This will make it comfortable for the pets.
The other important thing is, keeping the artificial grass free of the hair that the dog sheds. For this, the dog's hair should be brushed regularly so that excessive hair fall is controlled. While cleaning the lawn, it should be first thoroughly brushed with a carpet brush. Then, a vacuum cleaner with a large floor attachment should be used to get the remaining hairs out. After this, it should be washed with water. If it is first washed with water, the dog's hair will not come out of the grass.
With proper care and maintenance, artificial grass is easily the best place for a dog to play.
