Environmental
Benefits Of Synthetic Turf
Several environmental advantages
can accrue by replacing turf grass with synthetic
turf. It may be strange and unbelievable
but the fact remains that in a typical residence
having 750 square feet of turf, the installation
of synthetic turf can conserve approximately
22,000 gallons of water every year. Synthetic
turf calls for no fertilizer, no pesticides,
no mowing and thereby reduces the cost of
various inputs.
We have failed to realize that man is not
different from nature but an integral part
of it. We have to protect nature if we want
nature to protect us. The role of nature is
crucial to man in the air he inhales, the
water he drinks, the food he consumes, and
the land on which he dwells. We are destroying
forests. We are contaminating water. We are
responsible for air and noise pollution. We
are depriving the animals, birds and other
living creatures of their natural habitats.
We are depleting ground water. We have contributed
to ecological imbalance and guilty of making
the earth increasingly less diverse. The extensive
damage to our environment from human activities
is at an all time high and calls for immediate
remedial measures.
Do you have a lawn? Do you use fertilizers
and pesticides, weed killer etc? How much
water does it need each year? How often do
you have to cut the grass? Do you use a petrol-driven
lawnmower? If even a few of these points applies
to you, then you are contributing to environmental
pollution. You have to immediately think of
using artificial grass. The artificial grass
can be environment-friendly to both our and
coming generations in the fight against global
pollution.
Artificial
turf requires no mowing, watering, fertilizing,
or re-seeding. Regular maintenance involves
brushing and occasional vacuuming cleaning.
Reduced labor costs related to maintenance,
costs saved form avoiding fertilizers, herbicides
and pesticides; many claim a considerable
reduction in maintenance costs.
Apart from the environmental advantages arising
out of reduced water usage, the avoidance
of fertilizer and pesticides means less chance
of contaminating groundwater. This results
in safer field conditions for children, pets,
and wildlife. In addition, you should also
know that synthetic turf is commonly made
of recycled materials. There are certain other
distinct advantages. Synthetic turf is available
for use 24 hours a day, seven days per week,
throughout the year. Artificial surfaces don’t
become muddy in wet weather. Synthetic turf
is multi-functional, low maintenance, and
far more durable than natural grass. For these
reasons and many others, synthetic turf systems
are the desired playing surface for a diverse
number of athletic and recreational activities.
When the original artificial turf surfaces
were introduced three decades ago, there were
apprehensions that natural playing surfaces
were safer because their use resulted in fewer
injuries, particularly knee injuries. Bit
with the introduction of advanced manufacturing
and installation procedures, the new artificial
surfaces are showing low injury rates and,
in fact, these new rates are actually lower
than the injury rates experienced on natural
grass surfaces.
Synthetic turf is an ideal substitute for
the conventional turf that can solve the threatening
environmental hazards. When comparing synthetic
turf with natural grass, the maintenance savings
and increased playability are incidental advantages
and environment-friendliness is the biggest
plus.
