That’s a great question -Purchase Green grasses (like most in the industry) have drainage holes every 4″ to 6″ – so the grass drains at a rate of 27″ per hour. Remember though – artificial grass is almost NEVER your limiting component – artifcial grass in virtually ALL residential applications is installed on top of a compacted subbase – so the issue isn’t how fast the water gets through the turf – it is how fast that water can be absorbed by your subbase (which candidly is MUCH slower than 27″ per hour!). So be sure to install a proper drainage system or insure you have the proper slope/grading when doing your subbase preparation. Also don’t be fooled by folks claiming a 100% permeable backing will drain better – it will only drain better if you have a very sophisticated subgrade drainage system AND you get more than 27″ of rain per hour (not a problem we have here in north america!!!) Otherwise you are simply be charged for a system that provides no real tangibe value.
