The U.S. Department of Agriculture has eliminated the only federal program that tracks the use of pesticides and fertilizers.    The cancelled program was the only one to make freely available to the public nationwide data on the amount of pesticides and fertilizers applied to farms and landscapes in the United States.  The loss of this data not only puts ongoing research programs at risk, but the public will no longer be aware of  the amounts of these chemicals in the water supply.  Strategies to reduce pesticide use will be hampered by the loss of this data, as well. 

Artificial grass does not require the use of pesticides and fertilizers.  Increased installation of artificial turf can help to keep the water supply free of these chemicals.
